Quick answer
Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport is SZX (深圳宝安国际机场). For most daytime arrivals, take Metro Line 11 from Airport Station (机场) in the Ground Transportation Center (GTC)—not Airport East (机场东) on Line 1. Line 11 runs toward central districts such as Nanshan and Futian. Official taxi pickup is at Gate 13; online ride-hailing pickup is at Gate 15. Confirm live last-train times on the day before you skip the taxi queue.
If this happens, do this
| Situation | What to do next |
|---|---|
| You want the metro into the city | Follow Metro / 地铁 signs into the GTC to Airport Station on Line 11. Do not go to Airport East. |
| You have heavy luggage or arrive in rush hour | Consider Line 11 business carriage after tapping in at the normal gate, or use the official taxi queue at Gate 13. |
| You land after the last metro | Use the 24-hour official taxi queue (Gate 13) or ride-hailing at Gate 15; airport express coaches also run overnight routes from near Gate 17. |
| Your map says Airport East | That is a different Line 1 station, not under the terminal. Return to GTC signs for Airport (机场) on Line 11. |
| You want to tap a foreign bank card | Shenzhen Metro contactless gates accept eligible overseas Visa / Mastercard / AmEx / JCB / UnionPay cards network-wide (from 12 September 2026); enable contactless and small-value PIN-free payments. |

Confirm you are at SZX (not Hong Kong or Guangzhou)
SZX is in Bao'an District, Shenzhen, on the mainland side of the Pearl River Delta. It is not Hong Kong International Airport (HKG), not Guangzhou Baiyun (CAN), and not Shenzhen's older rail-only "Airport East" naming on Line 1.
Before you leave arrivals:
- Confirm the airport code SZX on your boarding pass or bag tag.
- Follow signs to the Ground Transportation Center (GTC) for metro, taxi, ride-hailing and airport buses.
- Save your hotel's Chinese name, full address and phone number.
Compare the main options
| Option | Useful when | Check before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| Metro Line 11 (Airport Station) | Daytime, manageable luggage, hotel near a Line 11 or transfer station | First/last trains; station name Airport vs Airport East |
| Line 11 business carriage | Suitcases, rush hour, longer ride toward Futian | Extra fare on Line 11; second tap at the business-carriage validator |
| Official taxi (Gate 13) | Late arrival, heavy bags, no working ride-hailing | Signed Gate 13 queue; meter on; Chinese hotel address |
| Ride-hailing (Gate 15) | App and payment already work | In-app pin at Gate 15; do not follow curb solicitations |
| Airport Express coach (near Gate 17) | After metro hours, or fixed downtown stops | Ticket counter / WeChat ticketing near Gate 17; route destination |
Metro Line 11 from Airport Station
Official Shenzhen Airport metro guidance places the Line 11 entrance in the GTC concourse (elevators and escalators from the terminal). Walk time from arrivals to the platform is often 15–20 minutes—build that into last-train planning.
Station name: Airport (机场) on Line 11.
Do not confuse with: Airport East (机场东) on Line 1—different station, not the terminal metro stop for most SZX arrivals.
Direction into the city
Toward central Shenzhen you generally ride Line 11 past stations such as Bihaiwan, Bao'an, Qianhaiwan, Nanshan, Houhai, Hongshuwan South, Chegongmiao and Futian (and onward toward Gangxia North / Hongling South depending on the current published terminus). Check the platform screen for the live destination name.
Published first/last times vary slightly across English and Chinese airport pages and change with holidays. As a planning baseline from Shenzhen Airport's Chinese metro page and recent Line 11 summaries (recheck on the day):
- Toward the city / Hongling South direction: first train around 05:36, last around 00:02 (later on some holidays).
- Toward Bitou: first around 06:37, last around 00:03.
Always reconfirm on station boards or the Shenzhen Metro timetable before relying on a late arrival plan.
How to pay
You do not need a local Chinese bank account for basic metro entry if one of these works:
- Contactless overseas bank card — From 12 September 2026, Shenzhen Metro announced that all fare gates accept tap-and-go from overseas cards on China UnionPay, Visa, Mastercard, American Express and JCB when contactless and small-value PIN-free payments are enabled. Use the same card to exit.
- Alipay or WeChat Pay metro ride code — If your visitor wallet already works, open the metro QR and scan at the gate reader. Use the same phone/account to exit.
- Ticket machines / customer service — Fallback if card tap or QR fails; staff at major hubs including Airport have been noted in the same announcement as assisting overseas visitors.

Business carriage on Line 11
Line 11 has a business carriage (higher fare band). Official airport fare bands list ordinary carriage roughly CNY 2–14 one way and business carriage roughly CNY 6–30 one way (exact price depends on distance; subject to operator updates).
Typical boarding pattern described by traveler guides and consistent with operator practice:
- Tap in at a normal gate.
- On the platform, find the fenced business-carriage zone and validator (often toward one end of the train).
- Tap again with the same card or QR before boarding the business cars.
International cards that work at ordinary gates are also described as usable for the business-carriage tap in the September 2026 overseas-card announcement.
Official taxi and ride-hailing
Per Shenzhen Airport's English ground-transport pages:
| Mode | Hours | Pickup |
|---|---|---|
| Taxi | 24 hours | Gate 13 |
| Online ride-hailing | 24 hours | Gate 15 |
Join the signed queue. Ask for the meter. Show a Chinese hotel address. Ignore anyone inside arrivals offering an unofficial car.
We do not publish a fixed yuan price to Futian or Luohu here—traffic, time of day and exact destination vary. If you use DiDi, see How to use DiDi in China. Airport enquiry / complaint lines published on the same pages include +86-755-23456789.
Airport Express after metro hours
Airport express coaches sell tickets and board near Gate 17 on the GTC west platform (per airport English bus pages). Some overnight routes (for example toward Bao'an / Xixiang areas) are listed with early-morning operating windows. Confirm the destination stop on the ticket board—do not assume every coach goes to Futian or Luohu.
Before leaving arrivals
- Confirm SZX, then follow GTC signs.
- Save the hotel’s Chinese name, full address and phone.
- Decide metro, taxi (Gate 13) or ride-hailing (Gate 15) before you leave the secure area when possible.
- For metro: walk to Airport Station on Line 11—not Airport East.
- Keep a payment backup (contactless card, wallet app or modest cash).
- If you land very late, see Late-night arrival at a China airport and What to do in the first 2 hours after landing.

FAQ
Is Airport Station the same as Airport East?
No. Airport (机场) on Line 11 is the SZX terminal metro station in the GTC. Airport East (机场东) is a Line 1 station and is not the under-terminal stop for typical SZX arrivals.
Can I tap a foreign Visa or Mastercard on Shenzhen Metro?
Yes for eligible contactless cards, according to Shenzhen Metro / Shenzhen Daily coverage dated 13 September 2026: all gates accept overseas UnionPay, Visa, Mastercard, American Express and JCB when contactless and small-value PIN-free payments are enabled. Keep a backup method.
Where is the official taxi queue?
Gate 13 of the Ground Transportation Center, 24 hours.
Where do ride-hailing cars pick up?
Gate 15, 24 hours, per Shenzhen Airport’s published taxi / online car-hailing page.
Does Line 11 have a business class?
Yes. Ordinary and business fare bands are published on the airport metro page; tap in normally, then validate again at the business-carriage area with the same payment method.
