Confirm the accommodation will accept your late arrival, save its Chinese address, and identify the official transport help desk or taxi queue. A scheduled flight arrival is not the time you leave the terminal. Baggage collection and arrival procedures can consume the time you expected to use for a train connection.

Before the flight

Send your accommodation the arrival date and approximate time in its local time zone. An arrival just after midnight belongs to the next calendar date, while a room you want to enter immediately may require the preceding night's booking. Ask the property to confirm the actual check-in arrangement rather than guessing from the date shown in the app.

Save the full Chinese address and branch name. Agree how the hotel should be contacted if your flight is delayed. Check a transport alternative that works without a newly registered app.

At the airport

  1. Check your airport and terminal against your plan. Cities can have more than one airport.
  2. Read the current signs or ask staff about the final departure for your destination and any transfer. A train still running from the airport does not prove your connecting line is available.
  3. If the full route is unavailable or impractical with luggage, follow official taxi signs or use a pickup booked through your own verified service.
  4. Show your saved Chinese destination. Confirm the payment method before setting off.
  5. Contact your accommodation with the revised arrival estimate when you have a connection.

If your app or data fails

Stay at a staffed location while choosing the alternative. Ask airport staff to identify the official queue and help explain the address. Avoid following unsolicited drivers to a different pickup point. Having a hotel booking reference is useful, but a driver also needs the actual destination.

Shanghai's official airport transport page lists rail, bus and taxi options and warns that departure times can change. Beijing's Daxing guide describes staffed assistance for airport transport ticket purchases. Neither establishes a universal overnight service or fare across China.
